Looking for a new way to enjoy cross country ski racing? Do you enjoy rifle shooting? Perhaps biathlon is for you.
The first step to participation is to join or renew your membership with USBA - they provide our insurance. Annual membership runs from Oct 31-Oct 31. Actually Aug 31-Oct 31 if you care to sign up early. There is also a member for a day option. http://www.teamusa.org/US-Biathlon/Members/Join-USBA.aspx
The next step is NSCF-FBC membership - registration and and waiver forms may be downloaded from the downloads\forms area of this site. The updated forms will be available on or before Sept 1 for the 2013-2014 season.
Finally, before you can use the range it is necessary to receive your USBA safety certification (using the USBA safety booklet, see below) for the USBA insurance to be valid. Several of the current range safety officers (RSO's) are qualified to do this certification so email if you are interested. It takes about an hour. This is a one-time requirement as long as the club keeps records and/or you keep your red safety booklet signed by your RSO.
The Fairbanks Biathlon Policies, the USBA safety booklet, and other interesting and informative reference material can be found in the downloads\Biathlon Reference Library. Temp cutoff for range openings is -5 deg F at this site (see weather tab) 2 h before the scheduled opening.
Nov 18 2013 update: No practice Monday or Tuesday this week. Power outages have hampered RSO coordination. Hope to have an RSO schedule ready to start practices next week. Check often for updates and RSVP if you plan to be there.
