The University of Alaska Trail System consists of more than 15k of trails. Located on the Fairbanks campus, the University trails provide the Alaska Nanooks ski team an excellent venue for training. The quality of the trails is excellent and the convenience of having them right on campus is a situation found at only a handful of universities in the country. The public enjoys access to the trails from West Ridge where there is a warming hut, as well as from Ballaine Lake on Farmer's Loop Road. The University Trails Club promotes the development and use of the University Trails for the recreation and enjoyment of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Trails Club provides input to the North Campus Area Sub Committee about trail system management. The trails are groomed and partially maintained by the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks.
