SONOT "SPRINGTIME" !
Thursday, 01 April 2010
As the Sonot Kkaazoot race director, I'd like to thanks ALL who volunteered and helped out this year. Carol Haas, Jennifer Schmid, Margaret Mannix, Tina Devine, Kay Kindt and many others. The Trail Groomers, Tom Helmers, Russ Lazotte, Andy Blossy and Poles(Bill Husby). Danny Baker, the SWEEPER and Photographer. The SCUM!! Too many to mention, and besides, they're all just a bunch of SCUM. SHARON BAKER, because, without her, this race would not happen. Bib pickup helpers, Carl Hemming(scum), Jeannette Hanneman, Bruce Miller, Carol DeVoe, Peg Bowers, Peggy Sulivan, Davya Flaharty, and a few others to shy to be mentioned. The three Feed Station Schools, Tanana Middle School (mid-way on the river), Lathrop HS (at the 12.5k turnaround), and North Pole HS (at the 25k turnaround and Finish). All three Schools did a great job, and seem to have fun too! Ft. Wainwright and the Birch Hill Downhill Ski Area were also a big help in the Sonot. And our sponcers, DENALI STATE BANK, DOYON, LTD, and FAIRBANKS PARK AND RECREATION! Without all the above people and organizations, this race could not happen. I'd also like to make a special thanks to MOTHER NATURE!! , without her, the Chena River would have certainly broke up. FINALLY, a thank you to all who entered this event, and those who watched and cheered!
The Chena River has been groomed! Unless MOTHER NATURE has some other crazy plan, the SONOT should start and finish on the Chena River. However; there is a new twist, not only will it start and finish on the Chena River, but, both the 20K and 50K will be run entirely on the river! The 20k will be it's normal self, while the 50k will be a 2-lap affair! Stay tuned for updates.
