The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks is pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Crawford as the new Fairbanks Cross Country (FXC) head coach and Director of Skier Development. FXC is the ski club’s junior racing program.
Nick comes to us with an extensive background in ski coaching and strength training. His coaching resume spans high school, club and collegiate skiing and running coaching. After spending his collegiate ski career as the team captain for Bowdoin College he started his coaching career in Fairbanks under the direction of then NSCF-FXC head coach, Pete Leonard. After two years in Fairbanks as the FXC assistant coach and the Lathrop High School head coach, Nick went on to Bogus Basin in Boise, Idaho as the head coach and program director for four years. Alaska was clearly in Nick’s blood as he found a reason to return to Fairbanks to assume the duties of the head coach for the UAF Nanooks cross country ski and running teams. In addition to his ten years of coaching experience, Nick raced at the junior and collegiate level.
Nick possesses a Master of Kinesiology from Boise State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College. He has USSA Level 100 and Level 200 coaching certifications.
This combination of competing, coaching experience at many levels, and his formal educational background give him an excellent base from which to lead the FXC program, as well as NSCF’s other skier development programs, into their next stage.
Many of you have met Nick as he worked with the FXC program as an assistant coach, his time as the Lathrop head coach or have had the opportunity to interface with him at Ski Fest or other Nanook ski related activities or the many NSCF events and activities for which he has volunteered over the years. His practical knowledge of the program will help ensure continuity as he continues to develop FXC for our athletes’ needs.
Please join us in welcoming Nick as head coach of FXC!
