This Saturday is the first race of the 24th Annual Kinross Fort Knox Town Series. The Fairbanks Youth Sports Season Opener, a free technique race, will be held on Saturday, November 23, starting at 11am on the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area.
The races start and finish in the Birch Hill Ski Stadium. Racing begins at 11am with competition in the Kindergarten-1st grade-2nd grade class, followed by 3rd and 4th grade class, 5th and 6th grade class, and the 7th and 8th graders. High school junior varsity skiers will have the option of racing in the 2.5Km event with the 7th and 8th graders. Each of these age classes will have separate mass starts, one for boys and one for girls. Over 300 entries are anticipated.
The high school and adult events will also be held in mass-start format, 5Km for women at 12:15 and 7.5Km for men at 12:45. All races will be held in free technique.
