The Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks is pleased to announce that the Twenty-Fourth Annual KINROSS Fort Knox Town Race Series continues with the Fairbanks Youth Sports Sprint Festival, Saturday, December 7, at 11:00am at the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area.
The KINROSS Fort Knox Town Race Series provides a competitive forum for skiers of all ages beginning with preschoolers. Over 150 entries are anticipated. All races will be held in classic technique.
Racing begins at 11:00am with competition for high school and adult skiers. Those groups will compete in elimination sprints over 1.1Km (High School/Adult A Bracket) and 850m (High School/Adult B Bracket, Masters Men’s Bracket), with quarterfinal, semifinal, consolation and final rounds.
The middle school bracket will race over a 600m course. Depending upon registration in the various classes there may be several sprint elimination brackets:
High School and Adult Women’s A and B brackets,
High School and Adult Men’s A and B brackets,
A middle school bracket,
A Master Men’s bracket.
The exact order of the brackets will be determined by the registration numbers, as will be the number of skiers in each heat and the number of skiers advancing from each round to the next.
Each high school/adult bracket may consist of four quarterfinals, two semifinals, a B final, and an A final.
Exact start times for all heats hinges on the number of entrants in the various classes. The final heat schedule will be published Friday and will be found on the Nordic Ski Club website (nscfairbanks.org > races > town series > town series #2).
This race will serve as a Region VI high school competition, with skiers from Lathrop HS, West Valley HS, and Hutchison HS and competing in both boys’ and girls’ classes.
The format for the elementary skiers will consist of short sprints:
Beginning about 20 minutes after completion of the middle school bracket, elementary skiers will compete in short untimed sprints within the usual age-classes (grade 5-6 girls and boys followed by grade 3-4 girls and boys followed by K-1-2 girls and boys.
Entry is free for all school students from Kindergarten through high school. School students may be entered through their school club or team.
The entry fee for adults is $10 for members of the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, and $15 for non-members.
Race entries close at 11:59pm Wednesday, Dec. 4th. There will be no late entries or race day entries.
Skiers in school or club programs should enter through their coaches on an entry file provided to
coaches.
