Junior Nordics Information for 2019-2020
Be On Time
Plan to be at UAF and/or Birch Hill at least 15 minutes early to allow for parking and getting equipment organized. Children are expected to be at their meeting spots at the start time. The groups will leave promptly. We don’t want kids getting cold waiting for latecomers! Thank you in advance for making sure your kids are on time! Please understand that it is your responsibility to make sure your child has met up with their coach and is not left alone. If you know you will be late, you need to be prepared to ski with your child until you are able to find his/her group. It is not possible for us to locate a coach once the group has left the ski hut.
If you need a receipt for the lessons, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please request this by email and you can pick it up when you come to class. Receipts will not be available after the last day of class.
Lessons will be cancelled when it is colder than -5F at Birch Hill and -10F at UAF. Cancellations will be announced via e-mail, on the NSCF Facebook page, NSCF website, and the Junior Nordic Hotline (457-4437), two hours prior to lessons. Make sure to call the hotline if you are in doubt. The NSCF does not guarantee the number of lessons due to the unpredictability of the weather.
All children receive a NSCF Junior Nordics Hat only the first time when they sign up for lessons. You may purchase additional hats for $25. Junior Nordics jackets are for sale for $90-115 as well as sweatshirts, water bottles etc.
We do not provide equipment. A number of local ski stores including Beaver Sports, Raven Cross Country, Goldstream Sports, Trax Outdoor Center, and REI have ski packages for sale. Please direct your questions to your coach or to the program director.
We need your help! The NSCF Jr. Nordics program depends on volunteer coaches, and we need your support to keep this wonderful program going. It takes 50+ parent/high school helpers and dedicated NSCF community members to make our skiing happen for the youth in Fairbanks. We have opportunities for ALL LEVELS of coaching. Mostly, what our students need is to have an adult out leading the group who is positive and–most importantly–helps them have FUN! We also have events that we put on that need volunteers to pull off. Please contact Shelly Soderstrom or Sally Endestad if you’re interested in helping at email@example.com or cell 371-9564.
The snacks are organized and provided by the skiing families. Be sure to find the sign-up sheet on this website and sign up for the day you would like to bring snacks. Remember to please bring enough for around 15-20 children! A reminder that we are working to teach these young skiers how to be active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating healthy foods. You are welcome to bring home-made snacks but it isn’t expected. Please do not bring juice or other drinks. We encourage the kids to use their new JN water bottle!
